GROUP WORSKSHOPS:

UHA offers multiple homeschool workshops throughout the year.  There were many times along my homeschooling journey that I longed to sit under our association director and just glean some insight on either a road untraveled, such as high school, or recordkeeping requirements that I needed to simplify.  It is my heart’s desire to always be available for both nuts and bolts of homeschooling and encouragement that you are not walking this road alone.  Our association is growing yearly, and you are likely not the only one who needs some assistance!

Most workshops are for UHA members only!  However, we do host a few each year that are for those considering homeschooling.  If you know of anyone who would like to know the homeschool laws in South Carolina or options concerning kindergarten, please share when those classes will be held. 

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS:

ARE WE THERE YET?  ADVANCED HIGH SCHOOL PLANNING:  For ALL middle and high school parents! 🎓  High school planning can feel like a lot—but the earlier you understand the pieces, the more confident you can be moving forward!  Join us for a practical conversation about planning for grades 8–12 and making sure you have a roadmap for the high school years.  We’ll cover all things high school, including:

• 🎓 Planning toward graduation requirements

• 📋 Building and maintaining transcripts

• ⭐ Honors credits and advanced coursework

• 🏫 Dual Enrollment and how it can fit into your plan

• 🗓️ Looking ahead and mapping out high school years

 ENRICHMENT AND FIELD TRIPS:  This workshop is one of my favorites!  Let’s talk about homeschooling outside the curriculum boxes! While curriculum certainly serves an important purpose, the homeschool lifestyle offers something equally valuable: freedom, flexibility, and real-world learning opportunities. We’ll explore ways to bring learning to life through:

• 🏛️ Homeschool classes at local venues

• ✈️ Traveling while homeschooling

• 🌿 Everyday opportunities for hands-on learning and discovery

HOW TO HOMESCHOOL; FROM GETTING STARTED TO GETTING IT RIGHT: -- You’ve decided to homeschool…now what?  Whether you’re brand new to homeschooling, have already started but still have questions, or simply need a refresher, this workshop is designed to help you feel more confident, informed, and prepared for your homeschool journey!  We’ll cover the practical side of homeschooling, including:

• 📚 Understanding South Carolina’s homeschool laws and requirements

• 📝 Lesson planning and keeping your homeschool day on track

• 📖 Choosing and evaluating curriculum

• 🧠 Understanding learning styles and what may work best for each child

INDIVIDUALIZED HIGH SCHOOL PLANNING:  Have an 8th grade or older student? High school can feel overwhelming—but you don’t have to figure it all out alone! 🎓  Join us for an individualized high school planning workshop designed to help you create a plan that fits your student, their goals, and your family.  With a small group of only 10 participants, we’ll have the opportunity to focus on your individual questions and planning needs. We’ll talk through course planning, credits, transcripts, recordkeeping, graduation requirements, and how to create a high school path that makes sense for your student.

Whether your student is just entering high school, you’re trying to make a plan for the next few years, or you’re feeling a little unsure about whether you’re on the right track, this workshop is designed to give you clarity, confidence, and a plan moving forward.

RECORD KEEPING ROUND UP:  Let’s get those homeschool records in order!  Record keeping doesn’t have to be overwhelming! This small-group, hands-on, face-to-face workshop is designed to help you understand what you need to keep, how to organize it, and how to confidently maintain your homeschool records.

Bring your records with you! We’ll work together to:

• 📚 Review your current record-keeping system

• 📝 Walk through record-keeping requirements

• 📂 Organize and assemble portfolios

• 📋 Discuss what to include and how to keep it manageable
